Mental performance & hypnosis for competitive athletes
What if you could compete with the same freedom you feel in training?
For athletes who train well — but freeze, rush, gas out or hesitate when the pressure rises.
The real performance gap
You prepared properly. You knew the plan. Then the call-up came and your body changed the instructions.
This is not proof that you lack ability. It is an automatic response trying to protect you from pressure, judgement or failure.
Recognise the moment
You do not need another label. You need to recognise what happens, imagine the difference and know what to train next.
Imagine performing without your heart racing, your legs feeling hollow or your body reading adrenaline as danger.
How to: regulate the physical response so you can feel the energy and still remain present.
Imagine performing without second-guessing the decision, choosing the safe option or waiting until the opening has gone.
How to: remove the internal handbrake and act on what your training has already given you.
Imagine performing without controlling every part of a movement that used to happen naturally.
How to: stop rehearsing the hesitation and rebuild trust in the automatic movement.
Imagine performing without rushing, tightening up or abandoning the plan when the decisive moment arrives.
How to: bring your attention back to the next action and recover quickly after a mistake.
Imagine performing without comparison, fear of judgement and self-doubt pulling you away from the athlete you are in training.
How to: walk into competition prepared to perform — not desperate to prove yourself.
Real athletes. Real shifts.
“Everything clicked. I was just pure, relaxed playing rugby. I was in my flow state.”
Individual experiences vary. Coaching and hypnosis support change; they do not guarantee a specific result.
RTT practitioner · Hypnotherapist · Martial arts coach
I understand the difference between talking about pressure and feeling it. I have taught martial arts professionally since 1994, opened the Paisley academy in 2007, and I am a BJJ purple belt under Professor Rick Young.
I created this work because athletes prepare their bodies with care, then leave their automatic response to chance. This gives that part of performance a structure.

The method
Hypnosis is not the headline. Performance is. It is one of the tools used to work with the automatic part of the mind that drives familiar reactions under pressure.
Name the pattern and recognise what your mind and body are doing under pressure.
Identify the belief, association or earlier experience driving the automatic response.
Use hypnosis, mental rehearsal and performance tools to install a more useful instruction.
Practise the response in training until it is available when the pressure rises.

For coaches, clubs & teams
If the skill appears in training but disappears under pressure, the problem may not be effort. Ask John about a free performance talk for your team.
Straight answers
No. The automatic pressure response affects competitors in any sport — from BJJ and boxing to football, swimming, running, golf and tennis.
No. Mental rehearsal can involve feeling, sound, timing and movement as well as pictures. John works with the way your own mind naturally processes performance.
No. Hypnosis is a focused state in which you remain aware and in control. It is used here as a practical way to rehearse and strengthen the responses you want available in competition.
No ethical performance programme can guarantee a result, medal or selection. This work reduces internal interference so you can access the ability you have already trained.
